Die Mitglieder des Instituts forschen und lehren im Bereich der ökonomische Analyse des Rechts. Diese Forschungsrichtung begann vor mehr als 40 Jahren. mit der überwiegend theoretischen Analyse des Zivilrechts.
Heute wird auch das öffentliche Recht sowie das internationale Recht mit Hilfe des ökonomischen Instrumentariums analysiert. Dabei werden immer häufiger auch empirische Analysen durchgeführt. Die Mitglieder des Instituts tragen in ihrer Forschung zu diesen Neuerungen bei.
An der Universität Hamburg führt das Institut den Schwerpunktbereich der Juristenausbildung Ökonomische Analyse des Rechts. Im Rahmen der Postgraduiertenausbildung leitet das Institut das Studienprogramm European Master in Law and Economics (Erasmus Mundus gefördert). Die Doktorandenausbildung unterstützt das Institut in Hamburg mit der Betreuung des Graduiertenkollegs Ökonomik der Internationalisierung des Rechts und als Partnerinstitut im Doktorandenprogramm European Doctorate in Law and Economics.About Us

The Institute as a research center started with the theoretical analysis of civil law more than 40 years ago. Today, the Institute applies the instruments provided by the economic analysis of the law to most aspects of the legal field, including public and international law.
In recent years, the empirical analysis of legal norms has become more and more important to the field of the economic analysis of the law. In this regard too, the members of the institute contribute to scientific innovation with cutting-edge research.
The Institute leads, as part of the legal education, the area of specialization "Economic Analysis of Law" and administers the postgraduate program "European Master in Law and Economics" as well as the "Graduate College for Law and Economics". In addition, the Institute for Law and Economics participates in the international doctoral program "European Doctorate in Law and Economics".
